An exploratory study of embitterment in traumatized refugees

Abstract Background Refugees and asylum seekers are frequently exposed to violence, human rights violations unstable living conditions before, during, after their displacement. Elevated prevalence rates of psychiatric disorders in forcibly displaced persons well documented. However, less is known about other problems related common refugee experiences, such as embitterment, moral injury, diminished self-efficacy, how they trauma exposure post-migration difficulties. Methods A cross-sectional sample 71 refugees treatment were examined regarding potentially traumatic events, difficulties, injury appraisals, embitterment. Results levels embitterment reported by 68% participants. The regression analysis revealed that greater appraisals low self-efficacy significantly associated with higher Conclusion results provide first insights into factors populations.
